The Academic programme at MGIS is as prescribed by our affiliating body, CBSE ( Central Board of Secondary Education), New Delhi. It is the largest educational board in the country .
Mahatma Gandhi International School, Port Blair is affiliated to CBSE with classes from Nursery to XII and is duly recognised by the Directorate of Education , Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The primary school curriculum is based on the NCERT guidelines and focuses on laying the foundations of knowledge, skills and attitudes which will guide the young learners for life.

Children at this stage:
• identify self by specific abilities, characteristics and preferences (e.g., by gender, age, as part of a family, friends, colours, food etc.)
• develop a sense of balance and physical coordination through play.
• learn language through activities like role play, storytelling, poetry recitation, singing and reading age appropriate and level based books.
• understand to analyse their actions as right or wrong.
• learn to be friends with children from diverse backgrounds, celebrate various festivals, sing and dance together.
• learn to live in harmony with their environment, make observations, enquire and ask questions – what, how & why.
• relate a numeral to its respective quantity, associate value to a number and Identify shapes by names: curved and straight lines, circle, square, triangle and understand spatial relationships.
• learn to manage their feelings and emotions and learn appropriate behaviour.
• demonstrate the ability to begin to assume responsibility for their own safety within their environment.
• learn values, life skills, build relationships and grow up as confident and responsible citizens.
At this stage, there is no system of formal assessment.
The learning areas include:
1. Languages (English, Hindi) – Acquire the skills of listening, speaking, reading & writing, acquire varied range of vocabulary, develop interpersonal communication skills and express meaningfully.
2. Mathematics – Performing operation of numbers, understanding shapes, similarities and differences, collecting data, representing and analysing the data, identifying patterns in shapes and numbers etc.
3. Environmental Science – To make them aware of their surroundings, appreciative of and sensitive of environmental issues (natural, physical, social and cultural)
4. Information & Communication technology
5. General Knowledge
6. Visual Arts & Performing Arts
7. Physical & Health Education, Yoga, Karate
8. Life skills & Value Education
Children also get opportunities to join various hobby clubs as per their interest and aptitude. They participate in intra-section and inter-section competitions, class assemblies, annual days celebrations and social awareness campaigns.
The scheme of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), as designed and laid out by the CBSE & NCERT, is followed in the Junior School. Formal test & Exams are introduced in Class III.

Sports
MGIS offers a variety of sporting activities to improve health and fitness of our students, nurture individual talents whilst enabling them to enjoy recreational benefits.
The sports classes are compulsory for all and introduce the students to a variety of games and activities in order to develop their fitness ,physical skills, versatility and sense of fair play.
We offer: Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Badminton , Basketball, Athletics, Karate & Yoga.
The library is a well coming and dynamic hub that fosters information and media literacy , critical thinking , collaboration and reading appreciation.
The collection includes over ——–print books for classes from Nur to 12 and for development of teachers . MGIS is also in the process of setting digital library so that students can have access to digital and multimedia collection also.
The students have 40 mins weekly session for reading appreciation , story time and fun reading activities.
Apart from above, to inculcate love of reading and sharing and develop collaborating skills, small classroom libraries have been created in class which is run by students .
In response to the needs of children with learning difficulties or children who have come from diverse educational backgrounds, the school has a remedial program that is designed to work as a bridge to the curriculum.
At MGIS ,teachers and the school provide guidance through trained counsellors to help students in personal, academic and career options.
To instill the values of care, compassion and empathy, MGIS through has integrated experiential learning with enduring service learning . These activities enrich the learning experience, teaches civic responsibility , brings about social change and strengthen communities.
Students from Grade III onwards are involved in age appropriate community service activities. It connects students learning in classrooms with real world experiences in the community. Students gain practical skills, develop their career and personal interest, and are usually more engaged citizens.

Welcome to our school hostel! Our hostel is a home away from home, providing a safe and comfortable living space for students from diverse backgrounds. Situated within the school campus, it offers easy access to all school facilities. Presently the school has two boarding houses ;one each for girls and boys . Each Boarding house lodges the junior, middle and senior dorms and is taken care of by Wardens. Each room is well furnished, creating a conducive environment for studying and relaxation. Clean wash facilities and well organised laundry service help students live and grow in an environment that they can identify as home. The campus is also under CCTV surveillance and has round the clock security for the safety of its students.
We understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle ,which is why our kitchen provides vegetarian,nutritious and delicious meals ,catering to various dietary preferences. The inmates are served wholesome Morning breakfast, Morning Milk , Balanced Lunch ,Evening Refreshments, Dinner and Night Milk. Water purifiers are installed in both hostels to provide 24 hrs clean and safe drinking water.
We prioritize students academic growth and well being .Supervised study hours are mandatory for all boarders in the Study Halls. Students are provided access to computer and internet as well. Access to internet is supervised to avoid misuse. The students who wish to study late will do so, with the permission of the Warden.
Moreover, our hostel promotes a sense of community and friendship amongst students.Regular, events, outings and group activities foster a friendly atmosphere,encouraging students to form lasting bonds with their peers. A recreation room has also been set up with a small library, television,indoor games and music . Students are free to use the recreation room during their free time.
MGIS has standing arrangements for emergency medical aid with reputed hospitals in the vicinity. To ensure sound health of our students ,medical checkups are conducted time to time.
Parents & guardians can stay connected with their children through regular updates and communication channels. We believe in maintaining a strong parent –school –hostel partnership to ensure overall development of the child.
